Weird people are humans who have undergone an apotheosis, been heavily modified, associated with a Leviathan or have simply been changed due to repeated exposure to general weirdness, ritual, or The City itself. As noted, weirdness changes people, both physically and mentally, though how it does and to what degree varies between individuals. Physical effects include changed visual appearance, and changes in bodily functions such as no longer needing to eat, drink, and/or breathe, rapid healing, and slowed ageing. Mentally speaking, it can affect personality, but most very frequently results in trouble recalling, and eventually a complete loss of, personal memory. Weird people, especially those associated with Leviathans, frequently possess special powers or abilities. They are stated to still be human, or "beyond human", rather than having lost their humanity.
"Weird People" is not an official term, but is for people affected by "Weird Stuff"/"Weird Shit", a casual label used by Clara and Static Man.
Samuel[]
First weird appearance: 09 - An Implosion of an Idea
The leader of the Visser Historical Research and Preservation Society, and devotee of The Choir, he has sacrificed to his "god" in order to achieve his final, fleshy form. He had powers bestowed by Visser before he change, but both before and after his transformation, it is unknown how else he's been affected.
Melody Pendras[]
First weird appearance: 20 - Portal, Ending
After defeating Samuel, and being drawn into The City, she gained some of Visser's power. She seems to have suffered fewer effects than other individuals, but is, unlike her wife Alexa, still affected internally to some degree.
Jacob Lester/ “Rat”[]
First weird appearance: 11 - Body, Recorder
Previously Samuel's right hand man, he is odd when met, but after diving into his research into the weird, becomes properly weird himself. When next met, he claims not to remember anything, even his name, though some small traces at least surface from time to time. He can't eat, doesn't need to breathe, and no longer appears immediately recognisable as human, referred to as "that thing", "the creature", "whatever he is". He has a strange sense of morality, and heavily delights in his connection to the weird.
Caroline Levi/Suit []
First appearance: 11 - Body, Recorder
Caroline, or "Suit", has been physically modified to be stronger, more durable. She had her soul scooped out, and the fingers of LMG middle managers replace her own, allowing them to possess her from Earth. Her personality and memories were removed with her soul, though after the fingers are removed, she regains some portion of them. She doesn't seem to need to eat, drink, or sleep. As her soul returns, she also finds she is able to feel pain again.
Daniel Powell[]
First weird appearance: 11 - Body, Recorder
In Season 1, Dan is affected on a minor scale, experiencing a notable change in personality while forced to hold a piece of Visser, though seems released from this when it is pulled from him, for Samuel's apotheosis.
In season 2, Dan becomes Weird after being modified by Rat on behalf of LMG. Internally this effect is remarkably negligible; Dan's personality remains largely unchanged, though the weirdness makes him slightly more cryptic. His personal memories are noted to be "detached", vaguer, and while he has trouble with some details, he doesn't seem to have forgotten anything completely. Physically however, his modifications are pretty significant, a third of his body having been replaced with audio equipment. It's unclear if his inability to eat is because of the modifications, or a direct result of the weirdness. He also heals somewhat faster.
In season 3, Dan becomes slightly more cryptic once again, though does not seem affected otherwise. He manages to modify the ██████ ritual in order to regain his former unmodified appearance.
The Representative of The Curator[]
First Mention: 16 - Vines, Contest
Immortal representative of the Curator who can enter and leave The City at will. He has become Weird by his association with The Curator. He does not seem to be noticeably different externally, though he does not eat or drink, has an unnaturally long lifespan, and accelerated healing, making him functionally immortal. It is unknown if his personality is affected, though he has suffered massive personal memory loss.
Kara/ The Boatwoman[]
First Mention: 14 - Water, Leviathans
A tall, robed figure who operates a boat in a large river, transporting passengers if given the right payment. Consequences arise if you try to cheat her. The extent of her internal change is unclear, though she knows her name. She is very tall, grey, old and young at the same time, and has eyes like clouded water. She creaks like old wood when she moves.
Lou[]
Although not affected physically, or in anysignificant way mentally, Lou's association with The Curator seems to have made him better equipt to deal with Weirdness than Melody, and so may technically count. He mentions missing his parents back home after spending time in the city, while previously having claimed they are dead, and while he may've been lying initially or speaking more generally, he may also be suffering some effect on his memory.
Doctor Persimmons[]
First appearance: 34 - Trucker's Atlas
Blacktop's very own salesperson. Unclear how her time in The City has affected her, though she is able to make deals with obscure payments in much the same way as The Boatwoman and Payphone. Little is known about her, but her knowledge of Earth would indicate having previously spent a great deal of time there.
Mark Sollinger/Dromen[]
First weird appearance: 11 - Body, Recorder (as narrator), 20 - Portal, Ending (as a character)
After Dan goes missing, Mark seeks out help from The Cult to become powerful enough to help Dan. They end up sending him back in time where he exploits 3 actors (Alice, Oscar Waters, Patricia) to perform a ritual for The Messenger, and becomes Dromen. At the end of Season 2, they put Dan in an in-between space, while trying to find a way to make him "normal". In season 3, they become a high ranking member of The Cult. They are still able to eat, and need to consume a lot, and have no apparent issues with memory. They may not be able to lie, and appear visually different to every person who meets them. Dromen doesn't seem to function the same way as other weird people, so they may be changed in a way different to those mentioned above.
Static Man[]
First appearance: 27 - Mix the crushed lead with three drops of your own blood
Static Man is missing a solid form, instead comprised of static and teeth. He is difficult to look at . His experience of the world feels like it is through a filter. Static Man is not weird the same way many other individuals seem to be. His memory seems unaffected, he can still eat and sleep, though lacks a defined form.
