Tanya Molova is a reoccurring character in season 1, and Daniel Powell's ex-girlfriend.

Personality[]

Tanya is a persistent and assertive person with strong opinions, but a calm and level exterior. Mark describes her as "slightly controlling". She is rude and even somewhat bitter about people she doesn't like, and is fairly blunt about her feelings, but is patient and attentive with those she does care for. Despite the energy she gives to people she loves, she is still willing to stand up for herself and enforce her boundaries, even cutting them off if need be.

Physical Appearance[]

Tanya is of Eastern European decent, has brown hair, and is described as "unconventionally attractive".

Daniel Powell[]

Tanya and Dan are dating at the start of season 1, and seem to know each other fairly well. Tanya sends Dan off to his new job with some gifts, including a crock pot/slow cooker, a sun lamp, and some chia seeds. She knows his habits well, calling out his wearing the same outfit every day, and living out of his suitcase instead of unpacking. She likes him for his kindness (to the people he cares about), his dedication and enthusiasm to things he's interested in, feels safe with him, and appreciates his knowing when to be quiet. Despite appreciating his enthusiasm and trying to seem interested, Dan believes she has little interest in actually listening to his passions. They were not living together prior to season 1, and Dan has not yet said "I love you".

During the early days of Dan's new job, they talk often, though face-timing is difficult and Tanya asks Dan send her a video tour of the building instead. She never receives it. When Dan gets caught up in Visser's story, he ends up ignoring and neglecting her, and becomes worried about him, going so far as to contact Mark (who she hates). After finally talking with Dan, she becomes uncomfortable with his state and the situation, and realising he won't accept help or listen to her, ends up breaking up with him. When he talks to her for the last time, she remains cordial, if baffled and a bit concerned, and politely declines seeing him again. Well over a year later, Dan notes to Clara that he misses her, though (likely due to the effects of his new weirdness) is unable to remember her name.

Mark Sollinger[]

Tanya does not get along with Dan's friends, calling them all "shitty" but as Mark is Dan's closest friend, seems at odds with him especially. Similarly, Mark is unimpressed with her, not approving of her taste in books or music, and believing her to be another in a long line of similar girlfriends Dan will eventually get bored of. They are both well aware the other hates them, and only talk to each other very reluctantly when Dan begins to fall out of touch with them both, concerned for his well being. Mark is delighted by the news of Dan and Tanya's breakup.

Trivia[]

  • She owns a pet named Puddles, whom Dan is fond of.
  • She likes the Harry Potter books (much to Mark's disapproval)
  • She likes mainstream folk music, "Starbucks stuff"
  • At the beginning of season 1, she is renovating a place in Brooklyn. It is unclear if this is a personal project (as she makes it sound like she is trying to make it more appealing to potential new residents) that Dan helps with sometimes, or whether they are moving in together.
