"I'm consulting and they're choosing to ignore my advice, like I'm their goddamn mother telling them not to go to prom with a gang member"

Cynthia is an LMG middle manager and reoccurring character in season 2. One of the people overseeing the Outpost team, she is well known for her excessive swearing and constant bullying.

Personality[]

Cynthia is a proud, smug, hostile woman notable for her foul mouth and degrading attitude. Creative, she is a talented nicknamer and is capable of concocting profane descriptions and verbal abuse at a moment's notice. She appears to take delight in other's discomfort, and seems to go out of her way to be as awful as possible. She's shown to have been previously quite cautious, though she has become a lot more arrogant of her own abilities in the last 17+ years. She has a strong memory, and is fairly knowledgeable on both recent and historical pop culture. She is able to read people with ease and uses this skill to target their insecurities.

Despite her awful nature, Cynthia seems to be genuinely very good at her job, keeping in-the-know with company matters, flawlessly taking over from Brown, and always occupied with something work related. In spite of her dreadful attitude, she has managed to maintain a significant position with LMG for at least 18 years.

Physical Appearance[]

Virtually nothing is known about her appearance other than she is missing her left ring finger, which was promptly attached to Suit. She is probably between late 40s and early 60s in age.

History[]

Like Brown and Davenport, Cynthia has worked for LMG for at least 18 years, involved with the company's stranger interests. She held a consulting position in Seattle in the late 90s, with her assigned department trying to deal with The Cult. At some point after mid 1998, Cynthia, Davenport, Brown, and Smith meet via conference call to discuss the loss of Vining Towers.

In late 2016 or early 2017, Cynthia takes over managing employees of LMG's expedition into The City from Brown. She explains the new procedures and plans to Clara, Lou and Dan, and after Clara and Lou leave she spends the rest of her time busy with paperwork, or verbally abusing Dan whenever he needs something. Shortly into her time there The Cult begins targeting LMG, and she stops scheduling time at The Outpost, leaving Suit empty. In an effort to escape a Cult attack she attempts to fill Suit one last time, but is prevented as her finger is removed. As The Cult primarily targets operations around the Visser Portal in this attack, she may be working in the area, though this is unconfirmed.

Little is known of her personal life, other than that she does not have children.

Skills and Abilities[]

  • Suit: Cynthia is able to possess Suit and use their body at will, so long as Suit has her finger.

Relationships[]

Daniel Powell[]

Of everyone in the outpost, Cynthia has the most recorded conversations with Dan, and in most of them targets his insecurities with ease. Likely unable to threaten him into cooperating, she mockingly bribes him with information about LMG's history. In initial interactions she appears to try to isolate him from Clara and Lou

When expressing his concerns to her, Cynthia dismisses Dan immediately, not only shutting him down but calling him a monster and telling him "stop trying to pretend [he's] a person". Unlike Rat, Dan does not seem to weird her out, and she otherwise treats him much the same as she does Clara and Lou. It's not clear if she even cares whether or not he's human or is simply targeting him where it hurts most, as she views all employees as unimportant and disposable.

Clara[]

While cruel to everyone in the outpost, Cynthia immediately threatens the well-being of Clara's family in order to get both her and Lou to cooperate. She reads Clara well, using her willingness to protect her family at all costs to threaten Lou in the process. As with Dan and Lou, Clara calls her "The Asshole". It is a safe assumption that Clara despises her, and that Cynthia either delights in this, or does not especially care.

Lou[]

Cynthia is noticeably "into" Lou, and uncharacteristically even (half-mockingly) complements him, telling him he's "not just a pretty face". She is still heavily condescending and mocking to him, but slightly less so than Dan or Clara. She has little patience for him, regardless.

Rat[]

Cynthia is creeped out by Rat, and dislikes being around him, or listening to him speak more than she has to. However, unlike Clara, Dan and Lou, she sees no need to threaten him into cooperating, apparently trusting him to do his job. Rat is outwardly friendly, follows her orders and tries to impress her, but does not like her very much and calls her "the rude person" behind her back.

Suit[]

Cynthia enjoys getting to use Suit's body, and gets frequent reports on the outpost status from them. She apparently considers them to be a reliable source of information, but little more then a "body-bag".

Mr. Brown[]

While marginally more polite to Brown than she is to the underlings, Cynthia does not hold back on expressing her dislike for the man when he is absent, immediately calling him a "pencil-dicked fuck". She considers him cowardly, and stupidly overcautious.

Liam Davenport[]

Davenport is perhaps the only person on a level playing field with Cynthia's awfulness, his signature belittling and friendly condescension apparently getting to her more than her foul mouth does to him. She is wisely suspicious of his motives, and not especially impressed with his Vining Towers Project.

Appearances[]

Trivia[]

  • Cynthia's verbal harassment is somehow worse in the original script, sexually harassing Lou, and asking Dan if they "cut [his] dick off".

Quotes[]

  • "Stop trying to pretend you're a person. Monsters are cool. You're fucking RoboCop, without having to be a cop!"
