Davenport discusses the disappearances of Visser and its residents with Iris Voss.
Summary[]
Dan plays the tape that he found behind the fake wall at the end of episode 7.
- Tape 1: It is a recording of conversation between Davenport and Iris Vos. Vos works for a multinational construction and real estate firm. Davenport tells Vos that he knows three things about her company: one, they have a “pile of rubble” to deal with; two, they are responsible for the fact that hundreds of people from an apartment building have vanished from everyone’s memories; and three, they have 34 frozen corpses in a warehouse in Queens. He also knows that Vos has a bunch of Ampex tapes that he wants. She asks him why she should give these to him and he threatens to release the information about the warehouse. Iris Vos tells Davenport that a large number of resources were invested by her company into Visser. Bargains were made to come to a mutually beneficial agreement that they expected would last forever. Since so much "human capital" was invested in this building, she does not want to go and tell her company and her family that it was all a loss. Davenport threatens her, saying he doesn’t think Iris or her family would like to go to prison. He says that their company is mistaken in thinking that they are the only ones that know about the “loopholes within our reality”. Vos asks if the person recording the tapes was working for him, to which Davenport says yes, and that he only picked her because she was the sort of person who feels the need to finish a story. Iris finally agrees to give him the tapes in exchange for his silence. He also asks for the corpses and she agrees.
- Tape 2: Melody is interviewing Chris on August 19th, at 5:23 pm, on the eighth floor of Visser. Chris asks her to say on tape that this recording cannot and will not be used in a court of law. He tells Melody of how he and his friends met Frank in a club, who gave them some drug that made them get really high and feel like nothing they had ever felt before. When they asked him for more, he had run out, but said that they could help him make more. Since then, they had all been living with Frank in Visser, perfecting the drug and getting high. One day, Frank said he wanted to make more and sell it. Samuel and Jacob showed up and lectured Frank about how “this building isn’t meant to be scavenged”. Chris reveals they had been using some old paint from the 50’s that was not sold anywhere and only found in this building to make the drug. One day, when they were very close to being ready to sell it, Frank jumped off the building. His friends refuse to acknowledge the situation, but Chris knows that it was not a suicide because Frank’s limbs were pointed towards his apartment. Chris starts getting worked up and shouting, and then starts coughing up blood. Melody runs away to find a doctor. Samuel enters, laughing, and turns the recorder off.
Dan calls Mark asking for more information about Visser. Mark tells him that he's found some pictures of the Visser building having collapsed.
